Here are some watercolour sketches from my recent trip to Paris:
This first one was done at the Tennessee Jazz Bar on Rue Mazat on Monday 2nd September, where I had gone to play at their open mic. Hopefully you can tell that the figure in the middle is playing a guitar!
The next day I took a walk along the Seine, trying to find a good spot to sit and draw. I found this view of the Pont au Double (with Notre Dame concealed in the background) but went looking for a cold can of beer first before I sat down to try and paint it. While I was there, one tourist asked if he could take my picture painting.
The friends I stayed with had the most amazing apartment, mere metres from the Arc de Triomphe. On Wednesday I sat out on their balcony trying to capture both the north and south views; that way my sun burn was nice and even.
Piefinger are a folk band from North London. They made a real cracker of an album last year called A Countryman’s Favour, and approached me to make a video for the song It All Falls Apart. I went away and came back with this idea, and they were really up for it and trusting throughout the whole process… it turns out they’re great actors in addition to being great musicians and songwriters.
The video for my forthcoming single, Just the Kind of Thing. Made after three intensive days of painting. and filmed with a lot of help from generous friends who didn’t realise the puppetry skills that lay dormant inside them. Released on Monday 27th February 2012.
This week I have been using the holiday period to make a music video for one of the songs from my CD. I was locked away in my room painting, painting, painting, and on Wednesday some friends came over and we shot it… now I’m busy editing editing editing; the result should be ready in the next day or so.
